The Problem Isn't Always Traffic
Most businesses assume they need more traffic to get more leads. Sometimes that's true. But often the bigger opportunity is converting the traffic you already have at a higher rate.
If your site gets 500 visitors per month and converts at 2%, you get 10 leads. Fix the conversion rate to 5%, and you get 25 leads from the same traffic. That's 150% more leads without spending a dollar on marketing.
Fix #1: Move Your Phone Number to the Header
Your phone number should be in the top navigation bar on every page, on every device. On mobile, it should be a click-to-call link. This single change can increase inbound calls by 20–40% for local businesses.
This is not an exaggeration. The number of businesses that bury their contact information on a separate page is staggering — and the leads they're losing because of it are equally staggering.
Fix #2: Strengthen Your Headline
Most business headlines are weak. 'Welcome to Smith Roofing' tells a visitor nothing. 'Long Island's Most Trusted Roofing Contractor — Free Estimates' tells them who you are, where you operate, and what to do next.
Your headline should communicate your value proposition in under 10 words. What makes you the right choice? Be direct and specific.
Fix #3: Add Social Proof Above the Fold
Your Google review rating should be visible on your homepage before visitors scroll. 'Rated 4.9 stars by 94 Long Island homeowners' is one of the most powerful trust signals you can display.
If you have a significant review count, this is low-hanging fruit. Add it to your homepage hero section immediately.
- →Display star rating and review count in the hero
- →Add a testimonials section with specific, detailed quotes
- →Include before/after project photos
- →Show your license number and certifications
- →Add photos of your real team and equipment
Fix #4: Add a Sticky Contact Bar on Mobile
On mobile, a fixed bar at the bottom of the screen with a call button and a text/chat button dramatically increases conversions. Many visitors are ready to contact you but won't scroll back up to find your number.
A sticky CTA bar keeps your contact options accessible at all times — which means more calls.
Fix #5: Reduce Friction in Your Contact Form
If your contact form asks for more than 5 fields, you're losing submissions. Name, phone, email, service needed, and message. That's everything you need to qualify a lead and call them back.
Long forms feel like work. Short forms feel effortless. Every additional field you add reduces submission rate. Cut everything that isn't essential.
Fix #6: Add CTAs at the Bottom of Every Page
If someone reads your entire 'Roofing Services' page, they're interested. Give them a clear next step at the bottom: 'Ready for a free estimate? Call us or fill out the form below.'
Bottom-of-page CTAs convert at high rates because they capture visitors who've already self-qualified by reading your content.
